So, tried playing FS2 with the 360 controller but something wasn't quite right, so instead I tried the mouse for aiming. It seems to still be DirectInput, not XInput, so the wrong axis mapping still carries over. Oh, it doesn't offer any improvement in support for 360 controllers. That said, the control wasn't ideal as aiming was a little off at times, and the Silent Threat expansion was just seriously annoying me on the first mission, which I just couldn't do in time.Īs such, FreeSpace 1 got uninstalled, and I moved onto FreeSpace 2, for which I'm using FS2Open 3.7.0 and the MediaVPs. It also meant I could add a vibration to the afterburner button which was a nice touch. For X-Wing Alliance I would also want to lose the triggers as the Z-axis and make them into digital buttons instead so that I can get rid of the annoying Z axis always reverting back to the centre position giving 50% throttle.įreeSpace 1 main campaign, I managed it through using my 360 controller with the roll axis on the right stick the wrong way up, but I did use Xpadder to map the correct way to digital roll via the numpad keys. I also tried to get Pinnacle to work for X-Wing Alliance which has the same roll left and right issue (it really is just that the right stick is detected as the DirectInput RX - for rotation - along the vertical instead of the horizontal) and even Pinnacle's DirectX overrides don't fix it. Yes it has lots of functions, but even the FreeSpace 2 profile shows that to get the right stick left and right to roll left and right it has to map them to the keyboard buttons, so losing the analog rolling. I've given Pinnacle a try as it has a 20 day trial, and I'm a bit disappointed. MotionInJoy takes controllers and remaps them so that they are detected as 360 controllers, so I'm not sure what it would do to map my 360 controller to itself. There is nothing special to say about it really because it does what it does and it works well with motion joy.Īlthough it doesn't have freespace 1 profile, so try it out for freespace and see how it works out for you And the profile section covers almost every game. Also Pinnacle is a nice tool that allows you to remap every button.

Zurvan7: Have tried MotionJoy? It lets you use your regular gamepad and emulate x360, ps3, ps2 controller with it. So, has anyone tried it before and is there anything I should know about it? It would appear from the website that it should be able to remap the axes but I don't know much about the program. I've heard of Pinnacle Game Profiler but haven't tried it. I've tried Xpadder but that doesn't support mapping an axis to an axis (it only maps functions to button presses), so the closest I've got is to map the left and right movement of the right analog stick to keyboard roll left and right, but this loses the analog advantage of varying roll speed. Now obviously it is a little strange to be using an up and down motion to roll the craft left and right, so I'm looking for a way to re-map the axis.

The right analog stick only works on the vertical axis, which the game picks up as the RX axis and used for rolling the craft. However, I don't have a joystick, only my 360 controller.įor the most part this works well enough, but being an older game it uses DirectInput, whereas the 360 controller is XInput, and this causes a minor issue. I got both FreeSpace 1 and 2 in the Xmas sale and so far I've really been enjoying the first game.
